We are Lisa and Jeffrey stites, co-editors of our high school newspaper who moved to Oak Island in 1994 with the dream of owning our own community publication. We both had regular jobs, Lisa as a courtroom clerk, reporter for a local newspaper and now as Town Clerk for the Town of Oak Island, while Jeffrey spent 25 years in the beer wholesale business managing sales and delivery in all of Brunswick and Columbus Counties. All the while, we both kept freelance jobs with various local publications, including Southport and Leland Magazines, owned by their founder Kris Beasley. Over time we began taking on more and more duties. Finally, in December of 2019, the time was right and Jeffrey left the beer business, we formed Live Oak Media Inc, purchased Southport and Leland Magazines, and became publishers. 

Even before turning the magazines over to us, Kris had the goal of starting Shallotte Magazine. We carried that goal with us as we began our journey, but then The Plague hit. Covid was difficult for the publishing industry, but thanks to the unwavering support of our advertisers and readers, we weathered the storm and have come out on the other side stronger and wiser, and ready to bring Shallotte and the South Brunswick Islands area the same quality community journalism that have made Southport Magazine and Leland Magazine so successful.
